TIHORAPPERS CRES - RAPPING IN MAYA

originally posted at wearemitu:

The Tihorappers Crew are a collective of Mayan rappers from Tihosuco, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

For the last four years, they’ve been using rap music to preserve their culture and to instill pride in their community.

“Lucha Por Tus SueƱos” by Jona & Creazy is exactly what the title promises: a track that implores listeners to fight and scratch until they realize their dreams.

“Estoy Contento” by MC Chama, a song about being proud of your roots, features a mix of Spanish and Maya.

“Estoy feliz de ser Mexicano, de ser un Maya con machete en Mano, estoy feliz de ser un rapero, de comer frijol y chile habanero,” raps MC Chama.

The self-produced videos are a reminder that hip hop continues to inspire people all over the world to pick up a microphone and represent who they are and where they’re from.
