"THE BATTLE FOR CASTLE GRAYSKULL" BY SIMON SOLTAU

Simon Soltau (SiMo Sol) creates another Masters of the Universe masterpiece! I always loved the original all-red Beast Man design, so this painting has me extra giddy! Kickass, Simon (as always)!

The wait is over.

"The Battle for Castle Grayskull" was my project for Grayskull Con 2016 It's a conversation of Alfredo Alcala's famous drawing into a huge classic oil painting on canvas at a mighty 100 x 120 cm size (about 39,5 x 47,3 inches). The original is a page of the minicomic "He-Man and the Power Sword" from 1981:

This is for sure one of the most difficult paintings I ever made of MOTU. The complex scene had a difficult composition, graphical inaccuracy in the original drawing didn't make it easier. The setting was abstract, the anatomy was a huge challenge. And even the actions of the single characters were not completely clear at the beginning.

As always I added some easter eggs. Some are very obvious, like Zodac and the boot dagger, some are much more subtle, like including stylistic devices that were often used in fantasy art of the 70s or 80s.

Well, enough said.

Enjoy.
