OLD STAR TREK "NEW" - PT5

Here's another installment of "Old Star Trek 'New", showing before and after pics of the "new" Star Trek episodes where they are replacing some of the FX shots with new stuff. Here are some pics from the latest aired episode, "Amok Time".

In this episode, we see Spock's homeworld, VULCAN, and he fights his fellow crewmembers in a freaky sex-crazed tantrum. This episode is different from the previous remastered ones in that here the new FX work are primarily new/altered establishing shots (so not before/after comparisons).

In the Original, the establishing shots looked like this:The remastered has a new establishing shot showing Kirk, McCoy and SPock crossing a land bridge to get to the arena (cue classic Trek fighting music). The other shot (pic left) is an aerial view of the Arena. In the original, the sky was blood red. But in this remastered episode, they've tried to bridge the original with the movies. In Star Trek III (and later movies & tv show incarnations), Vulcan is more golden (pic right). These changes don't bother me, as they are subtle. But really, like the ones before, are the changes necessary? I don't think so.
